Ashcircle is a South London duo making improvised music in order to cope with the overwhelming chaos of constant information and Tory governments. They organise "Cliff-Edge" at Hundred Years Gallery in Hoxton (before that, "Funeral" at New River Studios).

‘off the cliff edge’ was recorded in early 2020 with Brexit looming, inescapable. The duo rhythmically reconfigure looped fragments of material: one mangling a Bastl Microgranny’s digi concrète textures into new shapes, one bending the sequencer of a Korg Volca Beats off the grid. It documents a time for them when Brexit seemed like the only cliff-edge fast approaching.

There's a lovely subtlety at play here, where I can't tell what's looping and what's not. Despite the titles not offering much in the way of explanation, I think there's humor, nostalgia, and great care in this collection. Ned Milligan
